Domain rating

Domain Rating scores the strength of a backlink profile on a 100-point scale. What it does not tell you, and why it should never be the only criterion.

Domain Rating, usually abbreviated DR, is a score from 0 to 100 developed by Ahrefs that estimates the strength of a website's backlink profile. It measures how many other domains link to a site and how strong those are. It is not a Google metric and has no direct influence on rankings.

What it does not tell you

Three things that matter more. Whether the site has actual readers, because DR measures links, not traffic. Whether the topic fits yours. And whether the page your link would sit on is ever visited. A site can reach DR 60 through a large number of weak links and send nobody anywhere.

Why buying by DR alone fails

Because DR is the easiest metric to inflate and therefore the one most often inflated. Sites built to sell placements optimise for it deliberately. The result is a catalogue that looks strong and performs badly. If a listing shows a high DR and negligible organic traffic, that gap is the whole story.

How to read it in practice

As one of four numbers, never as the headline. Traffic, topical fit, and the link attribute belong next to it. In the Linkbroker catalogue all four are visible before booking, precisely so the decision is not made on a single score.

The honest limitation

DR is an estimate by a third party, it fluctuates without anything changing on the site, and it is recalculated on Ahrefs' schedule rather than yours. Treat it as a rough band, not a precise value.

Compare publishers by traffic and fit.
